In search of Vlad the Impaler- day trip to Targoviste

This is a day trip to one of the most important cities in the history of Valahia. From here Vlad Tepes ( the Impaler)  ruled this Romanian county  - Walachia. it was its capital between 1396 and 1688.

Our English speaking guide collects you from Bucharest Airport or any other location in Bucharest. Transfer to Targoviste, former capital of Walachia Count, situated on the right bank of Ialomita River. Visit the main point of attraction, the Princely Court, from where Vlad the Impaler, the Romanian Ruler known as Dracula ruled Walachia for 7 years. The impressive medieval ruins provide the visitor with an insight in Romania’s history starting with 1427.

We are coming back to Bucharest and visit Pricencly Old Court from Bucharest. The building was about 160 sq. m. wide and also had a tower. During Vlad the Impaler's reign a new fortress was built, in rectangular shape and of over 600 sq. m. with many cellars. By the end of the 15th century the fortress was almost 1000 sq. m. wide, with the followers of Vlad the Impaler continuing his work (Basarab the Young, Mircea the Shepherd). In 1972, on the site of the former Princely Court an open air museum was opened for public visitation, displaying fragments from different stages of the fortress development.
